Writing is part of our lives. It is a form of expression. Many times in the past I had sat down and looked at life. The role each of us plays in survival affects the way we feel and see ourselves in relation to others. . You work and build, give and receive. If in life you work for a common cause, then discover that your efforts are unrespected and dismissed as a form of sacrifice, then you easily walk away and seek to work with those around you, who share the same values as you hold and have. The poem : ” Am I just a Commodity?” was writtien in 2003 by myself as Splash Penningitout ~my pen name at a Poetry challenge on the site  FLEX Writiers had on MySpace.

The thing that triggered the flow of writing this poem was inresponse to a poem written by a poet in New York working at the museum of NY:”The Black Widow Spider.” It depicted women as being adored with an abundance in life with love and all provided by her male partner and later, this male partner being devoured by the female mate. Surely, this observations of such practises are common in nature, as well as in human existence. There are women out there, that do act as the ‘Black Widow’, but then again there are those women who devote their life to their children and those they love : it comes naturally to them without thinking; quite the opposite to the black widow, it is an act that is heart fulfilling! Many times, as a daughter, as a sister and as a wife and mother we have asked myselves, I feel wonderful having given because something is received; however, there are those that feel they are being used and they ask them selves: “Am I just a Commodity? ” Food for thought! Read and comment please.

POEM: “Am I just a Commodity?”~Splash Penningitout Debbie Papadakis.

A Relationship based on LOVE AND TRUST…

A TRUST that can be liquidated…

Moved with THRUST!!!

An Item used when in NEED…

An Item that is kept with GREED!!

Am I just a Commodity…

Worthy of productivity…

Worthy to be had…

And kept with Zeal…

BUT Alas….Not being RESPECTED…

Alas not being Fulfilled?

Am I just a Commodity, then?

With obligations to meet and Greet…

In your eyes, my eyes gleam!

If I close my eyes,

Or simply turn them away..

Would you just WANT me as ME..

Or would I be a commidity then?

Would my chestnut eyes be missed…

In my absence..

When not Totally fulfilled?

Would your love for me..

Handle my needs…

That would easily thrill?

Would you set me free

To see …

Away from all the haze…

Of your material needs…

That would classify me as being …

NOT a Commodity but  a WOMAN …

A human being?
